I am ready to go! Got a really late start practicing with the bow, bought a new sight a couple of months ago, but with a 17 mth old son and a pregnant wife, it has been a little hard to get the practice in. Just got my deer condo built and up, have to do just a little bit more work on it, but I am pysched! Has anyone got the big one figured out yet? We haven't seen anything really exciting yet on the cameras, but I keep checking.

Has anyone got the big one figured out yet? I was hanging up my stand the other day and I heard something coming so I just stood there and a Doe and fawn walked within 15 yards of me. She looked pretty Big...LOL

Love this time of the year! Does anyone have an opinion about rangefinders. Do they really help? Or is it just as good to mark off your distance on the ground and put a little marker at 20, 30 yds?

I use a Bushnell 500, It works really well. When I put my stands up I use the range finder to mark my distances. I will stand on the ground below my stand and have my hunting partner walk around and mark spots. They really come in handy when you are spot and stalking. jn

I just started to use one this year. I hunt some very different ground, from wide open wheat fields to deep thickets. For hunting the deep stuff, I plan to range the various lanes and landmarks to get a good idea of what my ranges are. I missed one helluva buck last year with a bow because of the fever and I hadn't ranged anything, shot right over his back. For the wide open ground and rifle/muzzleloader, I should have time to range before the shot. Out there I'm shooting all the way out to almost 300 yds, shots of 4-500 are possible, but I'm not that good yet. I'm seeing them up to almost 5-600 yards away in some directions.

She looked pretty Big...LOL A couple of weeks ago we put up my deer condo (below) and we had a 4020 John Deere tractor running, 3 pickups, 4 guys on the ground, drills and socket wrenches making noise, and two small bucks walked right up the draw not 50 yards from us. My Brittany was pointing (probably a rabbit) about 15 yards from them and they almost appeared to stalk her! Once she broke for the rabbit, they finally took off, about 50 more yards away from us. Funny how they are so skittish sometimes and so oblivious the next.

Colesdad...how tall are the supports for your condo? My first thought when looking at your set up was to laugh, but come to think of it, there are some telephone pieces on my land that the power company left behind. Now I know what to do with them!

They are about 7 feet to the floor of the box. Overall, they are about 10 feet (three feet below ground). Hunted out of it last night, mostly just to see what was moving. Had a total of 7 deer, does and fawns, walk between 100-150 yards past the stand. Come on, Bullet, what's to laugh at? I'm proud of that goofy piece of architecture!

I hunted out of a stand Saturday night that I have never have seen a deer from, but trails are all over. At sunset, I had three bucks, one 8 pt and two 4 pts, then about 15 minutes later 3 nice 8 pt or better walked down the same trail. I might try to get to them when this front comes through. I need to either do some clearing or set up an ambush point just a little closer.
