I have been hearing birds gobbling every morning when Im headed out the door for work.. I seen one roosted strutting in a cotton wood across the road from my house this morning.. He's just a jake though.. half a fan = 1 free year of getting hunted by me .. It's getting close though.. Im ready...

Saw a young jake right next to the interstated, in the construction area in Chandler yesterday. He was strutting around right next to all the heavy machinery.

I went out the first two mornings.
Day 1.....Cold, windy, and nasty. I shot a decent tom, ONLY because I had put him to bed the night before. Otherwise, there wasn't much hunting to be had in that horrid wind.
Day 2.....Cold but calm. First thing that monring managed to call a jake in from about 1/4 mile away. Went ahead and shot him and filled my second tag so I could head back to Nebraska.

good job man, I went out on saturday and called in 4 jakes right off the bat, and I heard another bird over by where they had flew down.. So i set there for a little while longer and thought (my mistake) they'd moved off somewhere else.. I got up got my decoy, and packed my stuff up to go somewhere else.. I made one more call to see if maybe that other gobbler may answer.. The jakes cut me off and sounded like they were coming back. I was goin to get out of there and not spook the jakes, and I had layed my bow down, and looked to my left, and there stood the longbeard 20 yards from me, he was behind a cedar and I was able to draw on him and he walked in front of me... He then putted and started walking back to the left.. I had to lean out and shoot him while he was walking.. I hit him and he took off flying.. he went up into the timber and I never found him, there's brush piles everywhere out there and I bet he piled up in there.. I never found my arrow either.. should of packed the gun instead!!! GRRRRRRR.. I think i hit him right in front of where his fan meets his body.. he was walking and i was leaning while i shot.. I shouldnt of shot.. oh well it was fun, I had them jakes at 10 yards spitting and drumming..

Sucks you couldn't find him, but at least you got out in the woods. I still haven't and it's driving me crazy.
