Wife and I will be hitting Kaw dam for spoonbill this weekend. Hows the snagging been there? Anyone been? Any reports?

The run is pretty much over. There are still fish in the deeper holes and you may get luck enough to snag a straggler, but chances are pretty low. Sorry, good luck anyway.

Well I figured it was late, but thought we would try anyway.
No luck. Just a few gar and a drum.

It's still fun to bring in a fat gar.

I got a decent sized crappie last time we were there. He was already dead when I got him in. A 10/0 hook through the head will do that. Anyways, I didn't feel right throwing him back so I ate him.

Well, I'm not so sure mine lived long. He had a gaping hole in his back from my 10/0 hook, BUT it wasn't worth a fine. With my luck a warden would have been watching with binocs from the dam.
So few sport fish are caught while snagging, I don't know why you can't keep them. Besides many are seriously injured when you let them go, because they are much smaller than your intended target. In all my years I have snagged one crappie, one walleye, and 2-3 channel cats.

Actually it is unlawful to return a fowl hooked fish to the waters of Oklahoma. The newest regulations for 2008 state...
IT IS ILLEGAL TO • catch fish from the waters of this state and such fish are dead or die as a result of such act, and not remove those fish and bury or burn them, except nothing shall prevent anglers from returning fish remains to lakes and reservoirs.
Not saying that you won't get a ticket for keeping a snagged game fish, but you could beat that ticket in court.

So few sport fish are caught while snagging, I don't know why you can't keep them. GAmer wardens really don't have much of a sense of humor about stuff like that. My buddy kept several 9.75" crappie that died as a result of swallowing a jig too deeply. When the Game Warden was writing his ticket he asked "Isn't that a waste of fish when they're already dead?" Game warden looked at him and said, "Turtles gotta eat too."

It all depends on who the Warden is, I guess.
