With rifle season less than a week away, who's ready? I know I am, and I have a little shadow now that is really raring to go. He's 9 this year, and hopefully he'll bring home his first deer. I can't wait to get him out there.
I have a nice little bottle neck with thick woods and a river on one side. The other side has a wheat field bordered by a very steep hillside. I think it's the perfect set up to take a new hunter. If pressure doesn't get too heavy the deer usually come thru at a leisurely pace.
Good luck everyone.

Well, it's the night before the big day. I can't close my eyes without seeing some type of deer activity. At about 8:00 this morning, I saw a nice buck in hot pursuit of a doe. She was flagging and he was vocalizing a tending grunt. Both of them walked within ten yards of my truck. They didn't seem to care that I was there.
Anyway, good luck to all of you. Hope your season turns out well.

I still hunted up to a little button buck at 7 am on opening day. He busted me at close range. I only get to hunt about one day this year so I wasn't picky. I turned my back to him to let him and let him calm down. When I turned back around he was still nervous but looking the other way. All I had was a neck shot but he fell like I hit him with an axe. Field dressed out at 62 pounds but he will eat good.

My son Christian downed his first deer on Sunday evening. I shot another doe just 20 minutes after his. His weighed in at 86 pounds. Mine was 126 pounds.

What is up with year's season? It almost seems the deer herd is way down.I know there have been several negative factors (weather, abundant food, ect.) but things have just not been happening around me and a lot of the people I know.

Pretty much the same here. Most people I hear are not seeing much. Its kind of discouraging really. Hopefully the activity will pick up soon.
