Sunday evening we set up on a small clearing with several trails leading in and out. Our partner went around and was going to try a slow one man push in our direction. We backed up into a cedar tree and I piled some branches around us and tied a branch horizontally in front of us for Christian to use as a bench rest. As soon as I sat down I saw a doe moving right into his best shooting lane. At first he had trouble finding her in the scope, but fortunately she stopped and gave him a perfect broad side shot. When he shot her chest hit the ground, she bounced back up and ran in a 80 yard circle and died about 40 yards from where he had shot her. I did not see her die so we planned on waiting about half an hour before going to find her. 20 minutes after he shot 4 does burst out into the clearing. I picked a mature one and put her down. When we found them, unlike me, Christian had made a perfect shot taking out her heart and both lungs. I didn't lead mine quite as far as I should have and took out her spine at about the center of her back. I could not be more proud.
Since he was the one that killed her, I took the chance to teach a little more responsibility. He cleaned his own deer (with my help).
