Lane and I took out to the turkey woods to take advantage of the Youth days. On Sat. We had a good friend of our go with us to help out with the calling. We had a real nice Tom come in and he got around 45yrds from us and did not present a shot before his girlfriend busted us around 15 yrds. She came on beside us but the Ol' smart Tom took the low road and went the other direction. After that we went to another spot and called up two jakes and they came right in. Lane took a 25 yrd shot at them with a .410 and missed him. We shook it off and kept going but never got another chance that Morning. We took the evening off to enjoy his uncle's birthday party. The next morning we figured we would go hunting before church. We get out in the woods and have a tom coming our way. He was around 60 yards when all the turkeys in front of us spook. I was thinking what in the world happened. I look up and our stupid dog had followed us and scared them away. So, we went to church and decided we would go after morning service. We headed back out in the woods. We saw some turkeys cross the road so we drove down about a 1/3 of a mile got out and crawled down in the woods that we were in Sat. morn. We took our time and set up a decoy and I got Lane all set up and put my mask on and I hit the 2.5 raspy hen diaphram and the turkeys started gobbling. We could hear them coming. I told lane just make sure he had it on its head and squeeze the trigger. The two Jakes came over a small hill and saw our decoy, and boy did they come into it. One came on our right side and the other started strutting and came right in front of us. He was within 3 ft of the decoy when lane pulled the trigger and the turkey was down. We were so excited we jumped up and started hooping and screaming. It was a very exciting moment for me and him. I am really proud of him. His turkey has a 4 3/4 inch beard and was 16 pounds.
