Saturday morning I was fishing with my 2 year old son and lost a rod and reel to a catfish. I had a line baited with stink bait about a foot off the bottom fishing on a dock. I was putting a cricket on my son's hook and thought "I should put a bobber on that line and leave the reel in free spool." I looked up just in time to see the rod stand on end and go in the lake. When I went to look I could see it plowing across the lake headed for deep water a couple of feet below the surface. All the while my 2 year old was laughing. I heard another splash and turned around to see he had thrown the other pole in the water. He thought this was funny. Fortunately I was able to get it out. Never did find the other one though.

expect just about everything. even a 3 year old catching a 3 lb. 9 0z crappie, mine did for his first fish

My same little rod chunker caught a 13 1/2" crappie for his first fish back in April. I'm gonna get it mounted or at least a replica of it. We ate the fish the day after he caught it.

He likes to go fishing with his daddy. He has caught lots of bream since then. His attention span is about 2 minutes and then it is time to turn loose the minnows or throw worms in the water. As long as he is having fun and likes to go I let him do what he wants. Soon enough he will not want Dad to do stuff with him.

My son that caught the crappie is almost 10 now but luckily he still wants to spend time with me. Just a matter of time, though.
